Title: 'And Every Second I Waste is More than I Can Take'
Author:
but_can_i_be_trusted
Fandom: The Legend of Zelda (Spoilers for 'Breath of the Wild')
Characters: Princess Zelda
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Notes: Crossposted to
vocab_drabbles
Artist: Linkin Park
Album: Meteora
Song: 'Numb'
Summary: It makes Zelda burn with humiliation.
Being berated before witnesses is so degrading. Perhaps the Sheikah down below, putting one of the Guardians through its paces, didn't hear her father's words. But Link was too near not to know what passed during the exchange. It makes Zelda burn with humiliation.
She respects Rhoam, both as her father and as Hyrule's King. But even a monarch should be capable of some sensitivity, some tact.
He resents how Zelda's been so fascinated by the ancient technology that's recently been unearthed. Feels that she's distracting herself from the training that he's pressured her into from her childhood.
Zelda knows her duties to the land well enough; perhaps better than anyone else can. But every prayer, every ritual, feels like a waste of time. As yet, whatever sealing powers she possesses have been unwilling to reveal themselves. They insist on lying dormant. If, indeed, she's even inherited that ability.
Surely helping the Sheikah study their ancestors' technological wonders can only aid in their cause. Zelda can't help feeling that she's making a vital contribution to Hyrule's protection. Far from adulterating her training, she feels that her researches are enhancing anything that she can offer.
How can her father expect her to give that up?
