"Okay, somebody had better have a good explanation for why all of the deli meats I bought today are gone," Monica growled.
Her gaze took in those gathered at her kitchen table: Chandler and Joey. Each wielded a large, mostly eaten sandwich.
Chandler swallowed hard. Both from the sudden nervousness that had struck him, and from the large bite that he hadn't quite finished chewing.
"We were hungry," he stated.
"I had four packets of bologna, three of ham, and six of various types of poultry," Monica protested.
"We were really hungry."
"Yeah; thanks for the great meal," Joey added.
She smacked him upside the head with a kitchen towel. "I was saving those for a party I wanted to throw this weekend!"
"What party," Chandler asked. "It's early September. I don't know of any special occasions that are worth throwing a party."
Monica sighed. "It wasn't anything special," she agreed. "I just thought it'd be fun. Sort of saying, 'Hey, summer's almost over! Let's celebrate!' But I guess that's one idea out the window now."
Joey and Chandler exchanged intrigued glances. As one, they rose and headed toward Monica's door.
"Where are you guys going?"
"The grocery store," Joey replied.
"We're gonna put that idea back in the window," Chandler concurred.
