Title: 'And I Blame You'
Author:
but_can_i_be_trusted
Fandom: Pokémon (Spoilers for HeartGold/SoulSilver)
Characters: Silver
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Artist: The Who
Album/Source: Who's Next
Prompt: Song with a color in the title
Song: 'Behind Blue Eyes'
Summary: Not that Silver cared.
Team Rocket. They were everywhere. Wherever Silver went, throughout Johto, there they seemed to be: A bunch of vermin, out to cause trouble in any way that they could think of. Crawling out of the woodwork.
Wherever he looked, though, there was no sign of his father. Giovanni, wherever he might be, didn't appear to be here. Not leading his precious Team Rocket in their latest schemes.
Typical. Like father like Team Rocket boss, apparently. Not only could Giovanni not raise his own flesh and blood...he couldn't even lead the team that he'd built up with his own two hands. The same team that he'd seemed to prefer over actual fatherhood, that had taken all of his time and energy away from Silver.
Not that Silver cared. Not that he'd admit it, if he did. Giovanni and Team Rocket deserved each other.
In Silver's eyes, he was better off without either of them.
Title: 'Le Vide dans Ma Tête (The Void in My Head)'
Author:
but_can_i_be_trusted
Fandom: Pokémon (Spoilers for Diamond/Pearl/Platinum)
Characters: Cyrus
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Artist: Gjon's Tears
Album: The Game
Prompt: Song in a language other than English
Song: 'Tout l'univers'
Summary: Better to be a void beyond joy and sorrow.
Cyrus sees them wherever he goes. Smiling faces. Expressions of happiness and love. Faces filled with friendliness and hope, determination and drive.
What naïve fools. Cyrus could pity them, but he's long since stopped caring.
Nothing in this flawed world, this incomplete disaster of a world, is worth caring about. He knows that from experience. Knows what it is to mean so little to anyone as to not be worth caring about, himself.
If people can love, then people can hate. If they can smile, that means that they can frown.
Better to be indifferent to everyone and everything. Better to be a void beyond joy and sorrow. To Cyrus, that just makes sense. This world, with its dichotomies, is not fit to live in.
Cyrus has pushed everything out of his heart and mind. Filled both empty spaces with his determination.
Once he's made a world that's as hollow as he is, Cyrus will be...not satisfied, perhaps. But as close to satisfaction as he thinks he'll ever be.
Title: 'I See My Future in the Stars'
Author:
but_can_i_be_trusted
Fandom: Star Wars Original Trilogy (Spoilers for 'A New Hope')
Characters: Luke Skywalker
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Artist: Miyavi
Album: NO SLEEP TILL TOKYO
Prompt: Song with a title one word long
Song: 'Stars'
Summary: Something out there is calling to him.
As far back as Luke can remember, he has always been looking up. Up at the stars beyond the twin suns of Tatooine.
Something out there is calling to him. He can feel it. His future, his destiny, is written up there in those twinkling stars. Somewhere just out of reach.
There's more for Luke than just moisture farming on this desert backwater world. There's something much greater. He doesn't know what it is. But it's out there. Just as surely as he's breathing.
One day, he'll go out and find it. One day, he'll leave this hot sand ball behind, and chase that starry destiny.
Title: 'As You Stare into the Vacuum of His Eyes'
Author:
but_can_i_be_trusted
Fandom: Pokémon
Characters: Giovanni
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Artist: Bob Dylan
Album: Highway 61 Revisited
Prompt: Folk song
Song: 'Like a Rolling Stone'
Summary: Scruples don't turn a profit.
Giovanni knows he has charisma. Knows that he has it in spades: A remarkable talent for luring in new recruits for Team Rocket.
Maybe it's in the way that he taps into the basic human fears of rejection and inadequacy; or offers a solution to the equally human desires to feel wanted, even needed. A sense of community is something that many people seem to long for.
Then there's the power. Whether the average person is willing to admit it, or not, everyone wants to have at least a small shred of power. To say nothing of the fact that they'll always need money, if only enough for survival.
Giovanni has so many tools at his disposal. Human tools, pulled in by his words and his eyes, as though drawn into a vacuum. One that sucks away their every last scruple before they agree to join Team Rocket.
Scruples don't turn a profit. Not when money talks so loudly.
Title: 'Greensleeves Was My Delight'
Author:
but_can_i_be_trusted
Fandom: The Monkees
Characters: Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Artist: Traditional
Album: None
Prompt: Lyric with "red", "green", or "blue"
Song: 'Greensleeves'
Summary: Micky blinked, as though waking up from a sound sleep.
Once again, as he'd been doing for hours, Micky drifted aimlessly through the Pad. His eyes had a faraway look, as he hummed and whistled.
At last, Davy grabbed his arm, dragging him to the kitchen table. "Enough's enough, Micky," he stated.
Micky blinked, as though waking up from a sound sleep. "Huh?" He looked around him, at his friends. "What's enough?"
"You've been wandering around in a daze all day, humming 'Greensleeves' under your breath. Frankly, it's getting on my nerves," Davy groused.
Mike grinned. "And you're lookin' kinda dreamy, there. Have been, ever since we came home from that gig at that birthday party last night."
Peter snickered into a mug of cocoa. "It makes me wonder if there might be some connection between the two."
"The gig..." Micky heaved a deep sigh, his eyes twinkling. "Did you see that beautiful girl in the green dress?"
"The birthday girl's big sister," Mike asked, eliciting a lovestruck moan from his bandmate. "Guess that's a yes."
"She was a goddess, a vision, a delight. A paragon...poetry in motion...she..."
"She'll never know you're alive if you don't call her and ask her out," Peter declared, pointing to the phone.
Suddenly, the ecstatic daze left Micky's expression, traded in for anxiety. "Do you think I should," he asked. "What if she turns me down flat?"
"Better to have loved and lost," Davy reminded him. "The best you can do is try."
