Not enough time has gone by for Emily to have forgotten the sting of hearing Ross saying Rachel's name at the altar, instead of hers. A friend's name. An ex's, instead of his bride's.
In the moment, she'd been too filled with embarrassment and rage. But time has made that lessen a bit. It still hurts, certainly, to have been humiliated that way.
But Emily wonders...did she judge too quickly? Rachel had popped in at the last minute, just before the ceremony. Perhaps the joy at having another friendly face at his wedding had simply preoccupied Ross, prompting him to speak without thinking. Accidents happen all the time; this might have been exactly that: An innocent accident.
Emily had thought she was in love with Ross. If she wants to be honest with herself, she's not entirely sure that she doesn't still harbor feelings for him. Feelings that she's not altogether certain she has for her new fiancé.
Second thoughts flood her mind. Only partly unwillingly, she gives Ross a ring. Leaves an undecided message on his machine when he doesn't pick up.
When he never returns her call, Emily knows there's nothing left to be said.

There are those who do it merely as hobbyists, as a way to keep themselves occupied when they're not at work or in school. Others are interested in the prestige of obtaining a rare Pokémon, or else to keep a species from going extinct. There are those who are weak, for whom a Pokémon's strength give a sense of security. And there are others still who need their Pokémon as their work partners, and value them as such.
To his disgust, Red has even met people who use Pokémon purely for profit. As objects that can be bartered, bought, sold. Like tools. Or like slaves.
Even Red has his reasons, though. Reasons that are based on mutual love and trust. His Pokémon are his friends.
