Summary: "Then I presume that you have a plan in mind?"
The agent who went by the code name The Doctor regarded his captor casually.
"Well," he grinned, "if it was absolutely necessary for me to be imprisoned by an enemy operative, at least I'm the captive of a particularly captivating one. Pun intended, of course."
River paced up and down the interrogation chamber distractedly.
"Never mind the puns," she warned, her eyes glued to the door whenever she happened to face it in her pacing. "And I'll find time to have words for you regarding the relative merits of one's skillset versus one's attractiveness to the opposite sex; I can't spare the time, just now."
"And why not," he wondered.
She ignored the question. "Furthermore, we won't have any of that 'enemy operative' rubbish. I've been meaning to defect to your side for years."
"Then why bother getting into the swing of it now," the Doctor asked, hoping not to be put off this time. He had a feeling that the answer would be far more interesting. "Why have you been putting it off for so long?"
At that, River turned her attention away from the door. She looked the Doctor up and down appraisingly, before smiling.
"Perhaps I've finally found the incentive I need," she murmured. "Now," she added, abruptly going back into business mode, "we'll have to time things just right."
"Then I presume that you have a plan in mind?"
"We'll break out under the cover of darkness. If everything goes well--"
Klaxons began to blare, forcing them both to briefly cover their ears.
"I'll go out on a limb," the Doctor shouted, trying to be heard, "and guess that things aren't going well?"
River cursed under her breath. "They must've bugged the room," she responded, yanking him over to the door. "I hope you're a good runner."
The Doctor grinned. "Good enough. I hope I'm still incentive enough for you."
She leaned in and kissed his cheek. "You'll do."
